Watertown is a city in the U.S. State of Massachusetts.
History[edit]
Early efforts to proclaim the Bahá’í Faith in Massachusetts were through the Perkins School for the Blind, the first school for the blind established in the United States, with a Braille edition of the Kitáb-i-Iqán being donated to the school in 1935,[2] and by 1940 a Braille copy of Bahá’u’lláh and the New Era had been donated.[3]
As of 1978 there were five Bahá’ís in the city and the community was set the goal of establishing a Local Spiritual Assembly that year,[4] and the Local Spiritual Assembly of Cambridge coordinated efforts to secure a pioneer family to the city.[5] A mass teaching project was launched in Massachusetts before the end of the year which resulted in a declaration in Watertown and two homefront pioneers moved to the city allowing for the Local Spiritual Assembly to be established.[6]
As of 1982 the Watertown Assembly was in danger of lapsing,[7] however it was ultimately maintained and was noted as being among the U.S. Assemblies regularly contributing to the National Fund in 1991.[8] The Assembly became jeapordized again in 1993 with a request for pioneers being published in the American Bahá’í.[9]
