Versailles is a city in northern France.
History[edit]
‘Abdu’l-Bahá briefly visited Versailles on February 17, 1913, during His tour of the West.[1] Persian Bahá’í Ali Kuli Khan, who had served as the Secretary of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, attended the Versailles Peace Conference in 1919 as a member of Iran's delegation to the Conference,[2] and on July 4, 1920, Shoghi Effendi visited Versailles for a day accompanied by Mrs. Sheybani, a Bahá’í living in Paris.[3]
As of 1938 at least one Bahá’í, Dr. Ayadi, was living in Versailles,[4] and they remained until at least 1940,[5] however by 1943 there was no longer a Bahá’í presence in the city and the Second World War prevented any Bahá’í activity in France for its duration.[6] After the war Bahá’ís had settled in Versailles again by 1952,[7] and Shoghi Effendi made several personal visits to the city after the war in search of plants for the Bahá’í gardens in the Holy Land.[8]
The Local Spiritual Assembly of Versailles was established for the first time in 1994.[8]
