Unit Convention

The Unit Convention is the annual meeting of all the adult Bahá'ís in a given electoral area, at which they discuss the circumstances of the community and elect a delegate to the national Convention. The Universal House of Justice sets the number of delegates who should be involved in the National Convention, and then the National Spiritual Assembly divides the country into electoral areas ("units") as it thinks appropriate. The guidance from the Universal House of Justice is that the number of voters within each area should be roughly equal, in so far as that is possible. It is regarded as their sacred duty to take part in the election. Believers may attend the convention in person, or, if they are unable, they may send their ballots by post.
The actual name may vary from one country to another, so it may be referred to as an Area Convention or similar term, rather than Unit Convention.
