Trustworthiness is of crucial importance, according to Bahá'í teachings. As we move into a more spiritual age, a universal code of honesty is required. 'Abdu’l-Bahá said: “Communication between the races of men is rapidly being established. Now is the time that all of us may… treat each other with honesty and straightforwardness.” Bahá’u’lláh Himself said: “Trustworthiness is the greatest portal leading to the tranquillity and security of the people. In truth, the stability of every affair hath depended and doth depend upon it.”
Trustworthiness is one of a vast range of Bahá'í teachings which are not normally listed as Bahá'í principles in the literature, but which ought to be. As the amount of fraud in financial affairs and dishonesty in public affairs and the news media seems to increase, so the Bahá'í teachings on honesty and trustworthiness appear ever more necessary.
