Toowoomba is a regional city in the Australian state of Queensland.
History[edit]
In late 1949 a Bahá'í group was established in Toowoomba with four members with Florence Symonds serving as Secretary.[1] The Theosophists of the city had a favorable response to the Faith and allowed the Bahá'í group to use their room to hold meetings.[2] By the mid 1950's there was an active youth group in Toowoomba in addition to the Bahá'í group.[3]
In 1961 a World Religion Day event was held by the Bahá'ís in Toowoomba which was well attended.[4]
As of 1985 subscriptions to Herald of the South were sent through Toowoomba.[5] In April 1986 the Bahá'ís held a peace concert and supper in Toowoomba which was attended by Australia's minister for foreign affairs.[6] In March 1987 a Peace Garden was opened in Toowoomba which had been suggested to the Council by the Local Spiritual Assembly of the city, who had also contributed $3,000 out of a required $8,000 for its construction.[7]
