The pronunciation is broken into individual phonemes so that they will have mouseovers to indicate pronunciation (the complete list is available at {{H:IPA}}). All phonemes from IPA for English are available. For anything outside that set, a different template should be used.
If [[unsupported input]] is displayed, it means that an unsupported input or non-existent sound file was used. Such instances are tallied at Category:Ill-formatted IPAc-en transclusions, where they can be reviewed and fixed.
The first three variables can be used to indicate a prescript (eg, English pronunciation:). All available flags are shown at {{IPAc-en/pronunciation}}. The named parameter |audio= may be used to link to an audio file.
