Talk:Lesser Peace
Successive stages[edit]
Is there any source for thinking that Shoghi Effendi saw the Lesser Peace and Most Great Peace as two successive stages? He writes:
"we cannot fail to perceive the workings of **two simultaneous processes,** generated as far back as the concluding years of the Heroic Age of our Faith, each clearly defined, each distinctly separate, yet closely related and destined to culminate, in the fullness of time, in a single glorious consummation. (Shoghi Effendi, Citadel of Faith, p. 31)
It looks to me as if Shoghi Effendi is talking about two different types of peace, and not two different chronological stages. Imposing a chronological scheme on it just confuses things. Shoghi Effendi describes these two kinds of peace and the processes that produce them in The Citadel of Faith pp 30-3 ("two simultaneous processes"); and in The Advent of Divine Justice page 85-90. The distinction between the processes is the distinction between religion and worldly civilization, between church and state, between the Bahai community and the nation, and then the world. - Hi Senmcglinn, you're right, it's the same process: bringing peace to the world. Where did you get the bit on it being a chronological scheme? We have the names Lesser Peace and Most Great Peace I think so we can know how humanity needs to progress, and what conditions need to be present when we do. David 20:34, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
The article says: its establishment will prepare the way for the Most Great Peace. My question is, is that a correct formulation? -Senmcglinn
"Preceding" calamity[edit]
Perhaps prompted by some conversations on the Baha'i.FYI Discord, I've added a section on the retributive "calamity" predicted by Baha'u'llah, since as far as I know we don't have an article on it. I believe it fits in this article since, as far as I understand, it is essentially said to be an event that will precipitate or at least precede the Lesser Peace. Trouble is, I haven't been able to find a really good quote (i.e. not pilgrim's notes) that specifically states that the calamity will precede the Lesser Peace, although it seems obvious. Any thoughts? --Dragfyre (talk) 16:49, 23 November 2024 (+08)
