Syrian Arab Republic

The Syrian Arab Republic is a country in the Near East bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the North, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel and Lebanon to the southwest. Damascus is the capital and largest city. It has a population of 25 million and an area 185,180 square kilometers (71,500 sq. mi.). It is often referred to simply as Syria.

History[edit]

In 1970, Jordon, Lebanon and Syria was included in the Regional Assembly of the Near East.[1] [2] In 1975, the NSA of Jordan and the NSA of Lebanon were formed and Syria was placed under the jurisdiction of the NSA of Lebanon.
