Biography[edit]
Hipp was born in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, in 1901. She had four sisters and three brothers. She studied nursing and worked as a nurse in England from 1925 to 1936 then returned to Luxembourg where she continued to work in the medical field establishing a practice which offered masseuse, podiatry, and physiotherapy services.[1]
Hipp was introduced to the Bahá’í Faith in 1947 by Honor Kempton who had pioneered to Luxembourg. She declared in December that year becoming the first Bahá’í of Luxembourg.[1] In 1949 the first Local Spiritual Assembly in Luxembourg was established in the capital and Hipp was elected to the body. In 1953 she was appointed to the Benelux Regional Committee which coordinate efforts to establish the Bahá’í Faith in the Benelux countries. In addition to serving in several administrative capacities in the early Luxembourg Bahá’í community Hipp also translated a prayer book into Luxembourgish, held children's classes, and donated her home to serve as the National Ḥaẓíratu’l-Quds of Luxembourg.[2]
In 1962 the National Spiritual Assembly of Luxembourg was established and Hipp was elected to the body. Around this time she also pioneered within Luxembourg to Ettelbruck with Honor Kempton and they lived together. In 1973 they pioneered to Kopstal-Bridel to help establish a Local Spiritual Assembly together. She accompanied Kempton to an International Teaching Conference held in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1976 visiting the Wilmette Temple in Chicago on the way.[2]
In 1982 Hipp pioneered to Walderange to assist with efforts to establish a Local Spiritual Assembly. She passed away in 1984 and the Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message after her passing[2]:
