Sutherland Shire, colloquially referred to as the Shire, is a local government area in the city of Sydney, the capital of the Australian state New South Wales.

It is notable in the history of the Baháʼí community in the state for being where one of the early Local Spiritual Assemblies was established and it has a local Baháʼí Centre.[3]

History[edit]

In 1942 the Baháʼí community of the Sydney suburb Caringbah established a Local Spiritual Assembly, although they did not send a delegate to the National Convention until 1946.[4] As of 1945 Hazel Reynolds was serving as secretary of the Assembly.[5]

The Assembly was renamed the Local Spiritual Assembly of Sutherland in 1956.[6]
