Shah Behram Mobedzadeh (January 25, 1901 - October 17, 1980) was a Bahá’í who served as an Auxiliary Board member for Asia.
Biography[edit]
Behram was born in 1901 into a Zoroastrian family and his forefathers were members of the Zoroastrian priesthood although his father had not followed the family tradition instead becoming a trader in India. When he was sixteen he was sent to Iran to live with his sister in Isfahan so that he could perfect his Persian and while living there he met Fádil Tihrání who introduced him to the Bahá’í Faith and he declared in 1925. He sent a letter to Shoghi Effendi expressing his Faith signing it Shah Behram son of Mobed Khuda Bux and the reply was sent addressed to Shah Behram Mobedzadeh prompting him to adopt Mobedzadeh as a surname.[1]
In 1928 Behram returned to India and began working in a restaurant in Bombay and then moved and worked in a restaurant in Calcutta but quickly found himself with little money. In January 1932 he went on pilgrimage and met Shoghi Effendi who advised him to emphasize the importance of teaching to the Bahá’í community and he traveled across Iran and India to teach the Faith after his pilgrimage. In 1941 he married Ridván Khánum the daughter of prominent Bahá’í Behman Behi and she became the caretaker of the children's hostel in Panchgani which became the New Era High School which she served as superintendent of.[1]
In 1964 Behram was appointed as an Auxiliary Board member and began travelling extensively across India to serve in the role and he continued to travel for the Faith well into the 1970's citing Ṭaráẓu’lláh Samandarí as his inspiration not to retire from travelling. In 1978 he became confined to bed due to illness and he passed away in 1980.[1]
