History[edit]
There was a small Bahá’í community in Santa Clarita as of the 1980's and in 1981 the Bahá’ís began sponsoring an annual Human Rights Awards ceremony.[1] As of 1988 the city had a Local Spiritual Assembly.[2]
In November 1991 the Bahá’í community of Santa Clarita was invited to take part in a multi-faith Thanksgiving service sponsored by the city's Interfaith Council,[3] and in 1993 the Local Spiritual Assembly of Santa Clarita submitted a local teaching plan to the National Teaching Committee of the United States.[4] In 1994 a local Bahá’í family in Santa Clarita hosted a Persian dinner to raise money for the construction of the Arc in the Holy Land with the event raising six thousand dollars.[5]
In 1998 the Bahá’í community of Santa Clarita began to increase their teaching activities and social and economic development efforts inviting a larger number of people to Bahá’í public meetings, organizing a community walk to feed the hungry, assisting in the planning of an International Festival to be held in the city, and participating in the cities InterFaith Council and annual women's conference.[6]
