San Jose is a city in the U.S. state of California. It is the largest city in Northern California by population and geography and serves as the county seat of Santa Clara County.
History[edit]
In 1953 San Jose was designated as a goal city for establishing a Local Spiritual Assembly. Walter Pappelbaum was the only Bahá’í living in the city as of 1953 but was joined by pioneer Clara Meyer in 1954 and Adrienne Ellis Reeves pioneered to the city a few months after Meyer.[1]
Several more pioneers settled to support teaching efforts in the mid 1950's with the fledgling community also receiving support from Bahá’í youth who moved to study at San Jose State College. These efforts resulted in the successful establishment of the Local Spiritual Assembly of San Jose in 1956.[1]
