San Clemente is a city in the U.S. State of California. It is located in Orange County in the Orange Coast region of California.

History[edit]

There was a small Bahá’í community in San Clemente as of 1975,[1] and the National Teaching Committee of the United States set the goal of establishing a Local Spiritual Assembly in the city by 1977.[2]

The Local Spiritual Assembly of San Clemente was successfully established in 1977 however it was considered at risk of lapsing.[3] That year the San Clemente Bahá’ís created a graphic design on the side of a home to represent year 134 of the Bahá’í Era with the art project receiving coverage in a local newspaper.[4] As of 1979 the San Clemente Assembly was still considered at risk of lapsing,[5] however by 1980 the body had stabilized with the support of the Bahá’í community of Dana Point.[6]

In 1995 the San Clemente Bahá’í community found success in teaching with a four-step programme. The first step was a monthly event titled the Saturday Popcorn Review at which guest speakers gave talks on general topics, during the introduction the Faith was mentioned and at the end the audiotape Who Are the Bahá’í's was played. The second step was inviting attendees to attend firesides, and the third step was inviting them to undertake a study course focused on fundamental Bahá’í topics with the final step being an invitation to join the Bahá’í community.[7]
