Rustam Varjávandí

Rustam Varjávandí (November 30, 1917 - October 15, 1984) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.
Biography[edit]
Varjávandí was born in Maryamabad, Yazd Province, in 1917. He completed primary school then moved to Tehran where his father had arranged an apprenticeship for him in the shop of a relative. He completed military service then established himself as a cloth merchant. In 1954 he pioneered to Sari remaining there for two years before returning to Tehran.[1]
On October 30, 1983, Varjávandí's wife was arrested at their home while he was elsewhere. He was arrested three days later when he approached the police and was severely beaten and kept in solitary confinement for several days. He was transferred to Qasr prison and became severely ill due to asthma while imprisoned ultimately passing on October 15, 1984. He was buried in accordance with Bahá’í law and his wife was permitted to attend his funeral, being released entirely one week after his passing.[1]
