Ronald Erwin McNair (October 21, 1950 – January 28, 1986) was an American NASA astronaut and physicist. He died during the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger.
Association with the Bahá’í Faith
[edit]Some Bahá’í sources stated that McNair was a member of the Faith, however his older brother Carl McNair disputed this: With all due respect, Ronald McNair was not of the Baha'i faith. As children, we attended some Baha'i events but never converted. This is, perhaps, the origin of the mistake.[1]
On his public memorial in Salt Lake City is the following quote by McNair:
- I do not profess to be a preacher nor one possessing profound knowledge or insight, but I do claim to be a Christian; and I do know that the God we serve has a strange way of using anybody or anything to convey his message.[2]
