Roberto Cazcarra was a Bahá’í who helped develop the Bahá’í community of Uruguay where he served as a National Spiritual Assembly member.
Background[edit]
Cazcarra married Else Jorgensen in Norway in 1953. They attended the Stockholm Intercontinental Teaching Conference that year and volunteered to pioneer to Spitzbergen but were unable to secure permission to move to the islands from government authorities. They instead established themselves in Oslo.[1]
Cazcarra worked for a Swiss company and received a contract to work in Uruguay moving there in 1954 while his wife pioneered to Portugal the same year. His wife joined him in Montevideo, Uruguay, in October 1956 and in 1957 they were both elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.[2] They both served on the body until it was disbanded in 1961 and they were then elected to the independent National Spiritual Assembly of Uruguay.[3]
