Rahmatu’lláh Vujdání (1928 - August 31, 1985) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.
Biography[edit]
Vujdání was born into a Bahá’í family in Bandar-‘Abbás in 1928. He studied at a teacher's training college after completing his schooling and became a teacher employed by the Ministry of Education,[1] first being stationed in the village of Hajiabad, near Bandar-‘Abbás, in 1949. He married Ishraqiyyih Azimi that year and they had six children.[2] One of their sons, Faramarz, pioneered to the Philippines where he was martyred by Muslim extremists in 1972.[1]
In 1953 Vujdání was transferred by the Ministry of Education to Minab where he helped establish a Local Spiritual Assembly. As a result of the Assembly forming locals opposed to the Bahá’í Faith submitted complaints about Vujdání to the authorities and he was transferred to teach in the remote town of Suza. In March 1955 he was suspended from teaching after identifying himself as a Bahá’í on a questionaire however after eight months he was able to secure reinstatement. He was transferred to teach in Qishm, then Bandar-‘Abbás, then back to Minab where he was able to teach for five years. In 1977 he was transferred back to Bandar-‘Abbás and elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly as its secretary.[2]
On July 24, 1984, Vujdání was arrested and imprisoned in Bandar-‘Abbás. After several months he was transferred to Evin prison in Tehran but later he was transferred back to Bandar-‘Abbás. He was severely tortured during his imprisonment up until his execution by firing squad on August 31, 1985. His body was returned to his family and he was buried in accordance with Bahá’í law.[1]
