Rahmatu’lláh Vafá’í

Rahmatu’lláh Vafá’í (1924 - March 12, 1983) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

Vafá’í was born into a Bahá’í family in Abadih in 1924. In his youth the family pionered to Bahmanabad where they were persecuted by the local populace and in 1937 the family returned to Abadih after their home in Bahmanabad was destroyed. Vafá’í completed most of his schooling in Abadih with his family pioneering to Dehbid when he was halfway through high school.[1]
After graduating Vafá’í moved to Abadan to pursue a career and began working for the National Oil Company. He later moved to Shiraz where he married in 1951 and he and his wife pioneered to Marvdasht where he established an electrical appliance business and served on the Local Spiritual Assembly.[1]
On November 29, 1982, Vafá’í and several other Bahá’ís were arrested and imprisoned in Marvdasht and he was tortured and interrogated before being transfarred to Adilabad prison in Shiraz. He was imprisoned for an extended period then executed by hanging alongside two fellow Bahá’ís on March 12, 1983.[2] His body was not returned to his family.[1]
