Victoria ascended to the British throne in 1837. The British Empire was very extensive, and she ruled over a large number of people. She is one of the monarchs addressed directly by letter by Bahá'u'lláh. The Blessed Beauty addressed her: "O Queen in London.." He wrote two letters to her, and specifically praised the abolition of slavery, and the transference of power into "the hands of the people". Queen Victoria is believed to have quoted from the Bible in her reaction to this letter: "If this is from God, it will endure. If not, it can do no harm." These are the words of Gamaliel, a Chief Priest quoted in the Acts of the Apostles. It is believed that she penned a response to Bahá'u'lláh's letter, and received a further letter some time later.

Victoria's grand-daughter, the lady known to history as Queen Marie of Romania, became a Bahá'í in the 1930s.
