Pleasant Hill is a city in the U.S. State of California. It is located in Contra Costa County in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. A Bahá’í community became firmly established in the city in the 1970s.

History[edit]

As of 1972 there was a small Bahá’í community in Pleasant Hill. That year the Local Spiritual Assembly of Walnut Creek sponsored a teaching project in the city which involved two press releases in a local newspaper, a proclamation on a local radio station, proclaiming the Faith to the Assistant Chief of Police of the city and presenting the City Manager with a copy of The Proclamation of Bahá’u’lláh, and teaching the Faith in several areas including at the Diablo Valley College.[1] These efforts contributed to the establishment of a Local Spiritual Assembly in 1973.[2]

By 1981 a Bahá’í Youth Club of Pleasant Hill had been established,[3] and in 1982 the Walnut Creek Local Spiritual Assembly sponsored another teaching campaign in Pleasant Hill which involved distributing Bahá’í pamphlets.[4] In 1983 Roberta Hill, a member of the Pleasant Hill Local Spiritual Assembly, was named the Pleasant Hill Citizen of the Year for her services to the community.[5]

In 1992 the National Teaching Committee of the United States designated Pleasant Hill as a homefront pioneering goal,[6] and in 1993 the Pleasant Hill Assembly developed a local teaching plan which it shared with the National Teaching Committee.[7] In 1995 the Pleasant Hill community requested pioneers settle in the city to help maintain the Assembly.[8]
