Payman Sobhani (1971 - April 28, 1986) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran at the age of fifteen.
Biography[edit]
Sobhani was born into a Bahá’í family in 1971 in Sistan and Baluchistan province. His family were Bahá’í pioneers to the province where they operated a store and his father was named Rouhol-Amin.[1]
On April 28, 1986, a man purchased carpet wool from the Sobhani store and requested assistance in delivering the goods. Sobhani and his father drove him in their van and the customer aksed them to stop to pick up two men from the roadside. The men were armed and blindfolded the Sobhani's and tied their hands. They were driven into the countryside where Rouhol-Amin was beaten and thrown off a cliff.[1]
After eighteen hours Rouhol-Amin, who had survived the fall, was found by a truck driver and taken to hospital however Payman's whereabouts were unknown. His body was found two dayslater in a field with his hands and feet tied together, stab wounds, and signs of beating.[1]
