Pasadena is a city in the U.S. State of California. It is located in Los Angeles County near downtown Los Angeles. A Bahá’í community became firmly established in the 1910s making it among the oldest in the United States.
History[edit]
There were a small amount of Bahá’ís living in Pasadena as of 1909 and when Thornton Chase moved to Los Angeles that year he established an informal administrative body for Los Angeles which also assumed responsibility for several neighboring cities including Pasadena.[1]
By 1910 weekly Bahá’í meetings were being held in Pasadena,[2] with the community noting growing interest and attendance throughout the year,[3] and by 1911 the Pasadena Bahá’í community was considered independent of the Los Angeles community.[4][5] During 1911 Aminu’llah Fareed and Lua Getsinger visited Pasadena during a teaching tour of California proclaiming the Faith to a large number of people including with a speech given at the Church of the Golden Rule.[6]
In 1925 Fádil Mazandarání delievered public lectures on the Faith in Pasadena,[7] and in 1926 several travel teachers including Albert Vail, Ali Kuli Khan, and Amelia Collins visited the city to teach the Faith.[8][9]
In 1941 the Local Spiritual Assembly of Pasadena was officially incorporated with the State of California.[10]
