Otto Hafner (1908 - November 3, 1978) was a German Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Germany.
Biography[edit]
Hafner was born in 1908 and raised in Fellbach, Stuttgart, in Germany. His parents were involved with the early Bahá’í community of Europe and he was with them when they met ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in Paris in 1911 and again in Esslingen in 1913. In his youth his families home was a center for Bahá’í activities.[1]
After completing school Hafner studied mathematics at university then began working in insurance ultimately becoming the director of a large insurance company.[1] He settled in Esslingen where he served on the Local Spiritual Assembly for most of his life. He was elected to the independent National Spiritual Assembly of Germany after the body was formed in 1959 and served as Treasurer for several years and he also served on the National Finance Committee. He was involved in the efforts to construct the Mashriqu’l-Adhkár in Germany through his service on the institutions.[2]
Hafner continued to serve on the Local Spiritual Assembly of Esslingen up until shortly before his passing due to a brief illness in 1978.[2] The Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message after his passing:
GRIEVED NEWS PASSING DEVOTED VETERAN BELIEVER OTTO HAFNER EXTEND LOVING SYMPATHY BEREAVED FAMILY PRAYING PROGRESS HIS SOUL ABHA KINGDOM.[1]
