Norman Bailey is a baritone opera singer, famous for singing in Wagner productions. Born in England in 1933, his family took him to South Africa as a teenager. He is a Bahá’í, and was recognised with the title C.B.E. (Commander of the British Empire) by the British crown. He frequently used his talents for promoting the Faith, and would give private performances to Bahá’ís and their friends, accompanied on the piano by fellow Bahá’í, Sylvia Schulman (Sylvia Benatar). When interviewed for the B.B.C. radio programme, "Desert Island Discs", he was asked to name a book which he would take with him, if he were to be stranded on a hypothetical "desert island". He nominated the book, "Bahá’í Revelation".
