Newark is a city in the U.S. state of New Jersey.
History[edit]
There was a small Bahá’í community in Newark as of the early 1900's and in February 1907 the Newark Bahá’ís collaborated with Bahá’ís from North Hudson and Jersey City to form a Bahá’í Assembly of New Jersey, although the body ultimately became the Local Spiritual Assembly of Jersey City when Bahá’í administration became formalized in the Ministry of Shoghi Effendi.[1]
As of 1910 Hooper Harris was living in Newark and hosting weekly meetings on the Faith for interested individuals,[2] and as of 1911 Newark was being referred to as having a Bahá’í Assembly.[3]
As of 1934 Newark had formed a Local Spiritual Assembly constituted according to the requirements of Bahá’í administration and the community sent a delegate to the election of the National Spiritual Assembly of the United States and Canada that year.[4]
