Neda Samimi is the first woman whose design for a Bahá'í House of Worship—the local House of Worship for Matunda Soy, Kenya—has been selected for construction. She holds a Master of Architecture, University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria, 2011.
The structure of the House of Worship she designed is described as simple and elegant with two tiers, one being the roof. It is inspired by the local housing. The interior will be well-lit from side windows and skylights, the first to be featured in a House of Worship design. The recurring diamond shape in the design is a familiar motif in Kenyan culture. It will seat approximately 250. Construction requirements specify local materials. This building is one of the first five local Bahá'í Houses of Worship to be built by the world-wide Bahá'í community. Saturday 23 March 2019 ground was broken and a cornerstone was laid to initiate construction. About 1,200 attended. Excavations for the structure had already commenced. The site is about four kilometers west of the town.[1]
