Biography[edit]
Rastigár was born into a family from Navizak. His father, Mirza Husayn, was a Shaykhí cleric who became a Bahá’í at some point but he did not share the religion with his family until 1903 when he arranged for his sons to meet with Bahá’í teachers.[1]
Rastigár became a Bahá’í in 1904 and began attending classes taught by Sadru’s-Sudúr to prepare Bahá’ís to serve as travel teachers in Tehran in 1905.[1] In October 1906 he moved to Khurasan Province to teach the Bahá’í Faith remaining in the area and also visiting Gurgan until June 1907. He then spent time in Qazvin and Rasht to teach alongside Mirza Aqa Rahmaniyan Sangsari throughout 1908.[2]
Rastigár moved to Sultanabad in 1909 when Mirza Aga Khan Qa’im-Maqami, a wealthy and prominent individual in the city who was a Bahá’í, hired him to tutor his children.[2] He then returned to Tehran where he taught at the Bahá’í run Tarbiyat school and studied French at Tarbiyat and also the Catholic run St. Louis School. He made another visit to Sultanabad in 1912 and married Bahiyyih, daughter of Mirza Ja‘far Thabit Isfahani, in 1913.[3]
Rastigár began working for the Iranian Ministry of Finance in Tehran in 1918 settling in the city where he was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly, serving as of 1922,[4] and appointed to several Bahá’í committees.[3] He passed away in June, 1973.[1]
