Naperville is a city in the U.S. State of Illinois. It is also considered a suburb of Chicago. There has been a Bahá’í community in Naperville since the 1960's which became more formally established in the 1990's.

History[edit]

In 1947 nine students studying the history of Religion at the College of Naperville visited the Chicago House of Worship.[1] There were Bahá’ís residing in the city as of the early 1960's,[2] however the community remained small having just four members as of 1978.[3]

In 1984 the city was noted as a goal area for homefront pioneering for the American Bahá’í community.[4] In 1993 a Bahá’í Summer School for the Illinois Heartland began to be held in Naperville annually,[5] and as of 1998 a Local Spiritual Assembly of Naperville had been established.[6]

The Naperville community remains active participating in the Du Page County River Sweep annually,[7][8] hosting regular devotional meetings,[9] and in 2024 it established an Annual Race Amity Day potluck dinner event.[10]
