Núráníyyih Yárshátir
Núráníyyih Yárshátir (c. 1923 - February 10, 1981) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.
Biography[edit]
Yárshátir was born into a Bahá’í family in Hamadán with her parents, Hashem and Rohanieh, originally being from Kashan. She had three brothers including Ehsan Yárshátir who became a notable academic. Her parents passed while she was a child and she and her brothers were raised by their grandmother, Jahan Misaqieh. She attended the Tarbiyat School in Tehran in her youth and learnt English.[1]
After completing her schooling Yárshátir worked for the Book Translation and Publishing Company of the Pahlavi Foundation. She experienced frequent harassment due to her beliefs being verbally abused by neighbours and having her car deliberately rammed on two occasions. On February 10, 1981, she was murdered in her home with her wrist and throat being slit with a knife. Her brother, Ehsan, pursued finding the murderer however the authorities did not pursue an investigation.[1]
