Messages from the Universal House of Justice, 1986-2001: The Fourth Epoch of the Formative Age is a compilation of messages from the Universal House of Justice published by the Bahá’í Publishing Trust of the United States in 2009. It serves as a follow-up to the compilation Messages from the Universal House of Justice, 1963-1986.

Background

The Universal House of Justice proclaimed that the Fourth Epoch of the Formative Age of the Bahá’í Faith had begun in 1986 and that the Fifth Epoch had begun in 2001, as such this compilation covers the Fourth Epoch.

It compiles letters, cables, telexes, and electronic messages which were conveyed to both Bahá’í institutions and individuals and includes letters on various topics of relevance to the community regarding personal conduct, and also includes messages providing guidance on formal activities such as publishing Bahá’í materials and Bahá’í scholarship. Also included are statements issued by the House of Justice on current events such as apartheid and the necessity of protecting the environment.

The compilation also covers several Teaching Plans of the Universal House of Justice providing insights into the development of the conception of training institutes and the institute process which became the standard means by which the Bahá’í Faith conducted and coordinated its activities from 2001 onward.
