Melbourne is the capital city of the Australian State of Victoria.
History[edit]
Hyde and Clara Dunn, the first Bahá’í pioneers to Australia, moved to Melbourne in approximately October, 1922, and began teaching the Faith with Clara making personal contacts and Hyde giving public talks. Hyde found success in teaching through talks given at the New Civilization Centre in the city and Effie Baker and Ruby Beaver became Bahá’ís shortly before the Dunn's moved to New Zealand at the end of the year.[1] In late 1923 the Dunn's returned to Melbourne and in November four women became Bahá’ís after a talk Hyde gave at the New Civilization Centre and the Local Spiritual Assembly of Melbourne was established in early December at the home of Margaret Dixson.[1][2]
