Meditation is a general term for any profound inward thought on matters of a higher nature. Meditation is one of the things which the Guardian said a Bahá'í should undertake every day. He was not specific as to its form, whereas there are many practitioners offering specific techniques to provoke deep thought in an individual. However, Bahá’u’lláh gave the guidance to His followers that they should read some of the Writings each morning and evening, and many Bahá'ís take it as axiomatic that there is little point in reading them if one does not then indulge in some contemplation as to their meaning and purpose. The other specific injunction of Bahá'u'lláh which relates to meditation is the repetition, ninety-five times per day, of the phrase, "Alláh-u-Abhá".
Wendi Momen has written a book entitled "Meditation" to help Bahá'ís deepen their understanding of this subject. A project, entitled C.A.L.M., also exists for community deepening on the subject. The CALM Handbook and The CALM Coordinator’s Pack are both available for this purpose.
