Mashhad (or Mashad, Meshed) is the capital of Iran's Razavi Khorasan Province, and an important pilgrimage site home to the shrine of Imám Rida, the eighth of the Shi'ih Imáms. Several notable Bábí figures were connected to Mashhad, including Mullá Husayn and Quddus, who both resided there for a time in that city's Bábiyyih (a centre for the Bábís). Many notable Bahá'í figures either resided or were born in Mashhad, including Badí‘ and Ibn-i-Asdaq.
