Mírzá Jalál Afnán was a Persian Bahá’í who was a member of the Afnán family and helped care for the House of the Báb in Shiraz.
Biography[edit]
Jalál was born into a Bahá’í family in Shiraz in the early 1870's. His father was Núri'd-Dín, a relative of the Báb, and his mother was Maryam-Sultán Bagum who was also a member of the Afnán family.[1] He was the second son born into the family.[2]
Jalál's brothers departed Shiraz in 1890 to join their father who had been living abroad since 1879 however he remained in Shiraz in order to serve as caretaker of the House of the Báb which his father was responsible for.[2] In his capacity as caretaker he received several Tablets from ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and served as caretaker until his father returned to Shiraz in 1901 and resumed the responsibility.[2]
Jalál married three wives, Mah-Tal'at, Ághá Bíbí and Ján-Ján Bagum. With Mah-Tal'at his children were Mírzá 'Abdu'l-Husayn, Mírzá Fadlu'lláh, Mírzá 'Alí, and 'Aliyyih Khánum however they all passed in childhood. With Ághá Bíbí he had Mírzá 'Amadu'd-Dín, Akbar Áqá , and Bihjat, and with Ján-Ján Bagum he had Gawhar Khánum.[1]
Jalál passed away in Shiraz having lived in the city his entire life.[1]
