Leicester is a city in the East Midlands region of England.

History[edit]

Some of the earliest Bahá'ís in Leicester were youth who pioneered to the city to teach the Faith in the early 1950's.[1]

The 1956 National Convention of the Bahá'ís of the British Isles was held in Leicester[2] and the Local Spiritual Assembly of Leicester was founded the following year.[3] A Bahá'í Center was opened in Leicester on February 15, 1958 with H.M. Balyuzi conducting the dedication. Ian Semple gave a talk on the World Order of ‎Bahá'u'lláh after the official opening ceremony and a weekend Bahá'í school was held at the Center.[4]

In 1967 the Annual British Teaching Conference was held in Leicester.[5]

In 1984 the Offices of the Bahá'í Publishing Trust of the United Kingdom were moved to Leicester and its distribution warehouse was moved to Ketton, about ten miles from Leicester.[6]
