Lawḥ-i-Salmán I

Lawḥ-i-Salmán I is a Tablet revealed by Bahá'u'lláh mainly in Persian but with portions in Arabic. Excerpts have been officially translated by Shoghi Effendi which were included in Gleanings and a provisional translation incorporating those excerpts exists.

Adib Taherzadeh has placed the Tablet in the Adrianople period, and written that it was revealed for Shaykh Salmán, an early Bahá’í who helped transport Tablets to Persia from the Holy Land. It is the first of two Tablets revealed for Salmán, both of which are referred to as Lawḥ-i-Salmán.

Taherzadeh describes the content of the Tablet as consisting of encouragement for Salmán on his travels, details of Mírzá Yahyá's opposition to Bahá'u'lláh, and an explanation of the meaning of a line from a poem by Rúmí in a complex way. Taherzadeh notes that while Bahá'u'lláh explains the line from Rúmí He also explains that He has brought new Teachings and is a Source of knowledge Himself, without referral to previous texts being necessary.
