Lawḥ-i-Khalíl

The Lawh-i-Khalíl is a Tablet of Bahá’u’lláh revealed in Adrianople.

Background[edit]

The Tablet was revealed for Hájí Muhammad-Ibráhím-i-Qazvíní, who Bahá’u’lláh addressed as Khalíl, who had received verses from Mírzá Muhammad ‘Alí, a son of Bahá’u’lláh, in which he claimed to be able to receive divine Revelation and to be the equal of his Father. After receiving the Tablet Khalíl wrote to Bahá’u’lláh requesting clarification on the station of His sons.[1]

In the Tablet Bahá’u’lláh clarified that His sons were not His equals and noted they would only have standing in the Bahá’í community if they observed the precepts of the Faith and did not try to cause division in the community. The Tablet also alludes to ‘Abdu’l-Bahá having a higher station than His other sons.[2]
