Lafayette is a city in the U.S. State of California and Contra Costa County. It shares its name with dozens of other cities across the United States.
History[edit]
As of 1955 some Bahá’ís studying at the University of California were living in Lafayette,[1] and by 1975 the city had a formal Bahá’í Group which entered a float into the cities Horse and Carriage Days Parade that year.[2] In 1976 the National Teaching Committee set the goal of establishing a Local Spiritual Assembly in Lafayette by 1977,[3] and this was successfully accomplished with the Local Spiritual Assembly forming in 1977.[4]
The Lafayette Assembly was at risk of lapsing in 1982 and 1986,[5][6] although during 1986 the Lafayette community achieved a self imposed goal of proclaiming the Faith to 189 new individuals.[7] The Lafayette Assembly was once again in danger of lapsing in 1996.[8]
