Joliet is a city in the U.S. State of Illinois.

History[edit]

In 1930 Keith Ransom-Kehler visited Joliet during a teaching tour.[1] As of 1953 there were Bahá’ís living in Joliet and the city was designated as a goal for establishing a Local Spiritual Assembly.[2]

As of 1975 there were only three Bahá’ís in Joliet however in November that year a Bahá’í couple pioneered to the city raising the number to five and they formed a Bahá’í group which met with Ruth Moffett who assisted them in a teaching campaign which resulted in six declarations. As a result the Local Spiritual Assembly of Joliet was established in 1976 with Zikrullah Khadem visiting the community upon the formation of the body.[3]

In 1980 the Joliet community launched a teaching campaign which was named Project Olinga, after Enoch Olinga, and after two months the community reported ninety-six declarations raising the number of Bahá’ís in the city to one hundred and fifteen.[4] In response to the success of the campaign the Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message:

KINDLY CONVEY LSA JOLIET, ILLINOIS, DEEP SATISFACTION EFECTIVENESS PROJECT OLINGA. WARM WELCOME NEW ADHERENTS CAUSE PRAYING SHRINES COMMUNITY’S CONTINUING SUCCESS EXPANSION. LOVING GREETINGS.[5]
