Dr. John S. Hatcher (b. 1940) is an American Bahá’í who has written several books on various Bahá’í topics. He is the brother of William Hatcher.[1]

Background[edit]

Hatcher studied at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, in the early 1960's completing a Bachelor of Arts in 1962 and Master of Arts degree in 1963. He then embarked on a PhD at the University of Georgia completing it in 1968.[2]

In his professional career Hatcher taught English literature at universities ultimately settling at the University of South Florida where he taught for thirty-nine years and serving as its Director of Graduate Studies. He is now a retired Professor Emeritus at the University of South Florida and lives on a farm in Plant City, Florida.[2]

He is an active Bahá’í and has served on the Executive Board of the Association of Bahá’í Studies and is an associate editor of the Journal of Bahá’í Studies. He has also written several books on the Faith, translated poetry by Táhirih in English with Dr. Amrollah Hemmat, and written several chapters on articles on the Bahá’í Faith for college textbooks. He was awarded the Templeton Prize in 2017 for his work in Bahá’í studies.[2]
