Jalál Payraví

Jalál Payraví (March 26, 1937 - May 5, 1984) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

Payraví was born into a Bahá’í family in Milan, East Azerbaijan Province, and spent his childhood there. He moved to Tabriz where he attended high school and then completed a degree in agricultural engineering at Tabriz University. He secured employment with the Ministry of Agriculture and served in several cities across Iran until settling in Urmia. He was also an active Bahá’í serving as an Auxiliary Board member for East and West Azerbaijan Provinces for a period.[1]
On October 25, 1981, Payraví was arrested however was not informed of his whereabouts for twenty-five days during which he was severely tortured. He was ultimately transferred to Tabriz prison on April 29, 1982, where he was executed by firing squad on May 5, 1984. His family was informed of the execution the following day and he was buried on May 7, 1984, in accordance with Bahá’í law.[1]
