Dr. Israel Posner was a Jewish Bahá’í who pioneered to Venezuela.
Background[edit]
Posner was a native of Israel but moved to the United States at some point. In 1957 he gave a talk about the Holy Land at a talk in Charlottesville, Virginia, and during his talk he spoke about the Bahá’í Faith drawing links to the Biblical prophecy of the Jews returning to their homeland.[1] As of 1960 Posner had pioneered to Venezuela and that year he was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly of Valencia when it was established.[2]
In 1962 Posner accompanied Peter McLaren on two trips into the Amazon jungle in Venezuela and they visited the Guahibos tribe. On their second visit to the tribe Posner stayed in their village for six weeks teaching them the Faith.[3] They continued to visit the village throughout the year and by December 1962 thirty-five Guahibos had declared.[4] In 1963 Posner visited the Apure State of Venezuela and taught members of the Yaruro tribe visiting the villages of Agua Linda and Mayagua. Four people declared during his visit to Mayagua.[5]
In 1964 Posner visited Trinidad & Tobago on behalf of the National Spiritual Assembly of Venezuela to assist in efforts to prepare the country for forming its National Spiritual Assembly,[6] and was elected as a member of the National Spiritual Assembly of Venezuela himself.[7]
