Iraj Afshin

Iraj Afshin

Iraj Afshin (1933 - November 26, 1988) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

Background[edit]

Afshin was born in Ardistán in 1933. He had a successful career in the Iranian Air Force achieving the rank of Colonel however due to the Iranian Revolution beginning in 1979 he was dismissed from his position because he was a Bahá’í.[1]

On January 26, 1986, Afshin was arrested at his home and for six months his whereabots was unknown. He was transferred several times between different prisons before being executed by firing squad in Tehran on November 26, 1988. His family was informed of his execution one week after it took place and his body was not returned for burial.[1]
