Ibrahim Ma'navi

Ibrahim Ma'navi (c. 1909 - c. 1979) was a Persian Bahá’í who is presumed to have been martyred in 1979.
Biography[edit]
Ma'navi was born into a Bahá’í family in the town of Hesar in the province of Khorasan in 1909. He faced persecution for his beliefs in his youth and was severely beaten in 1924 by a mob of Muslim fanatics.[1]
He left Hesar and lived in various parts of Iran until returning home in 1964. In January 1979 a mob assembled and began attacking Bahá’í homes in Hesar and an Islamic mulla mediated the situation by calming the mob and offering the Bahá’ís the decision of converting to Islam, paying a religious tax, or leaving the town. He initially offered the community ten days to come to a decision but then amended the time limit to three days.[1]
While the community was consulting a group invaded Ma'navi's home. Some of the Bahá’ís went to visit him the next morning and found that his front door was open and his house had been ransacked with blood stains present and his dentures broken on the ground. His body was never recovered but there were rumors that it had been thrown down a well.[1]
