An International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is a unique numerical code that identifies a periodical such as a newspaper, a magazine, or an academic journal. It is mainly used by libraries and other information providers to classify and organize periodicals.

An ISSN consists of an eight-digit code separated into two groups of four digits separated by a hyphen, with the last digit being a check digit.
