Vahdat was born into a Bahá’í family in Shiraz in 1925. He completed primary school in Shiraz and was sent to Tehran to complete high school. He enrolled in the Military Academy after graduating high school and returned to Shiraz in 1947 having become a Lieutenant in the Army. In 1950 he married and he later moved to Tehran to pursue further studies ultimately moving to Stuttgart, Germany, where he completed a postgraduate degree. He settled in Tehran after returning to Iran and served in the military until retiring in 1977.[1]
When the Iranian Revolution began in 1979 Vahdat's pension was terminated because he was a Bahá’í and he was arrested on September 30, 1981, and held in a damp and cold basement. He was transferred to Qasr prison on December 15 and became severely ill and weakened before being executed on February 28, 1982. His body was not returned to his family for burial.[1]
