Husayn Shakúrí

Husayn Shakúrí (1921 - April 2, 1979)[1] was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred.
Biography[edit]
Shakúrí was born into a Muslim family in Shishavan, Azerbaijan province, in 1921. His father passed away in 1926 and he did not start high school instead entering the work force to support his family financially securing a position with a physicians dispensary in Maragheh.[2]
In 1951 Shakúrí became a Bahá’í. He was married and his wife was also a Bahá’í and they pioneered to Urmia at some point. In 1958 he lost his job as he was a Bahá’í and established his own medical dispensary however it was shut down by the authorities after a short time. In 1964 his son was martyred at the age of fourteen by fellow students because he was a Bahá’í.[2]
On April 2, 1979, Shakúrí and his six year old daughter were shot while he was taking his daughter home from school and he was killed with his daughter surviving. His home was looted after his martyrdom.[2]
