Dr. Heshmat Ta’eed was the first Bahá’í pioneer to Laos.

Background[edit]

Ta’eed pioneered to Laos from Iran opening the country to the Bahá’í Faith in 1955.[1][2] His wife, Nosrat, and two children joined him in Laos after a time and he worked as a doctor and established a language school.[3]

Ta’eed actively worked towards establishing the Bahá’í Faith in Laos teaching the religion and working with the government to achieve official recognition of the Faith.[3] In 1959 he purchased 1000 square metres of land in Vientiane, Laos, which he donated to the Local Spiritual Assembly,[4] and in 1960 he was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Southeast Asia.[5]

As of the 1970's Ta’eed had moved to England where he worked as a consultant psychiatrist at the Billinge Hospital near Wigan.[6] In 1992 Ta’eed attended the Second Bahá’í World Congress in New York City and then visited Wilmette.[2]
