Heaven and hell
In the Bahá’í teachings heaven and hell are "conditions within our inner beings"[1] and do not represent places where we are sent or reside eternally. The Bahá’í Writings teach that our soul once created begins progressing towards God and does so forever[2] without decline[3] and that upon our death our soul remains in the degree of purity it attained in this life.[4] If you consider God and His teachings to be like the sun and rays of light, those souls which strove to fulfil their spiritual obligations will find themselves in the light and life of God. Such a condition would be heavenly. While those souls that spent their lives in spiritual darkness, ignoring God and His light, will find themselves continuing from such a condition after death. Such a condition would be hellish, though that soul will from thereon progress towards God.
